Red Thread – A Mythical Explanation Of Love

The red thread can unite love between father and mother, between brother and sister, or even between friends or life partners, but the goal is the same: to get to know another person as well as love him.
The red thread - a mythical explanation for love

Red thread and love. There is an ancient myth that two people belong together regardless of the relationship they are in at any given time or whether the two are far apart.

These individuals will always be connected to each other, although in practice this bond may not appear until the very end of life.

This so-called “red thread,” which can also be called destiny,  will never break — this is the myth, despite what happens to those two people.

“You can’t escape your heart, so you should listen to what it has to say…”

-Paulo Coelho, “Alchemist” –

The red thread connects

So it doesn’t matter how long it takes you to meet that person, nor how long you spend apart. So even if you live on different sides of the world, this red thread connects you so that your hearts are always together.

This connection belongs to you from birth and will last for the rest of your life. It is said that the moon appears every night to greet each newborn as well as to connect these new souls with a red thread tied around the girl’s finger.

This connection determines your future as well as guides your soul through life so that you are never lost – not even on the edge of the world.

Young couple and red thread

According to the story, this is how it works:

A long, long time ago, an emperor heard that there was a talented witch who lived within her realm. The witch had the ability to see the red thread of fate, and the emperor began to trace that witch.

When the witch arrived, the emperor ordered him to look for the other end of his red thread so that he would know who would eventually become his wife. The witch agreed to this request, and so she began to trace the other end of the wire.

Ribbon on the wrist

This story is so well known in many European cultures that today it  is not uncommon to see people with a red ribbon tied to their wrists.

As to the exact origin of this story, it is uncertain whether the story originated in China or Japan. It became a myth when it was discovered that the  ulnar artery connects the little finger to the heart,  which is of course the center of life, as well as the symbolic home of the soul, which also houses the ability to love. (Other sources related to the myth refer to the middle finger, and this typically applies to a more Western tradition.)

The red thread can unite love between father and mother, between brother and sister, or even between friends or life partners, but the  goal is the same: to get to know another person as well as love him.

Types of love

Sometimes it happens that these two types of love mix in one person. But it is usually the case that they manifest separately, and this causes constant grief. Both types of love are necessary for life itself, and you should be grateful for it if you can feel so much.

It is not possible to force the thread to follow any path. Nor can it be influenced by human ignorance, for even if one is not aware of the thread, it affects certain moments in life.

The emergence of the “red thread of love”  is a symbol of the “before” and “after” periods of life,  and it is something that will ultimately change a person’s existence and his or her perception of love.

Sometimes coincidences are so significant that it can’t just be a coincidence. Indeed, according to the story, each person’s heart is tied in some way to another person within the framework of eternal love.

This phenomenon can be called the existence of a “relative soul” – it is a person who has the same destination in life as you.
