Myths about wine

1. Good wine must be expensive

Do you think good wine has to be expensive? This is not always the case. There are still many people who believe that expensive wines are a sign of better quality.

There are many wine producers who offer good wines at affordable prices. The taste of these wines is not affected by the price tag.

2. Good wines may not mix different types of grapes

A good wine can, of course, be created from different grape varieties.

There are people who think that wines made from different grape varieties are of inferior quality. However, this is not true.

In fact, the combination of different grapes helps to create a more balanced taste and gives the wine delicious flavors.

3. If the wine has a screw cap, it is not genuine

myths about wine: screw caps

If you find that a wine bottle has a screw cap, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad or “fake”.

Many wines have a screw cap. Many believe that a screw cap is a sign of poor quality wine.

It’s actually pretty far from the truth. In reality, many wine producers use them for two reasons:

  • First, such a cap helps reduce costs.
  • Second, the  screw caps prevent the growth of bacteria.

4. Semi-sweet wines are of inferior quality

This wine myth claims that semi-sweet wines are of inferior quality, but that is not true.

There are many producers who argue that the quality of semi-sweet wines is no worse than that of dry or semi-dry wine. In their production, sugar is actually used to balance the flavors.

5. The same wine is not suitable for several dishes

Some people believe that there is only one wine that they can associate with a particular dish.

Don’t limit yourself to common beliefs: it’s best to try and learn to look for new combinations and unforgettable flavors.

6. Beautiful labels are a sign of better wine

A handsome display makes any product stand out better, but that doesn’t mean the food is better. It is the same with wine.

Due to the high competition in the wine market, wine producers have to turn to various presentations to present their products.

One of these ways is to use beautiful labels. However, it is just a publicity-seeking strategy that has nothing to do with product quality.

7. Wine sediment means that it contains dyes

Contrary to many people’s beliefs,  wine sediment does not mean that wine contains dyes.

There are people who believe that the sediment sometimes found in a wine glass comes from the dyes added to the wine. In addition, many people also believe this sediment is related to the quality of the product, which is generally considered poor.

Sediment means that the wine is not filtered and is as natural as possible, which is actually better than filtered wines. It is indeed the opposite of what people believe.

8. Wine loses its quality over the years

Although this myth is widely believed, wine does not usually lose its kind over time. This only happens with very few wines, and more it depends on storage.

Have you already heard these myths about wine? Did you believe in some of them yourself? Now is the time to shed your thoughts and make wine selection easier!
